Hi, I’m Cheryl.
I live in the Portland area (in Oregon, not Maine). I am a librarian. It’s not nearly as dorky as people think. Librarians can find out all sorts of great stuff for you, and we’re nice people too. I work at several different libraries and I sometimes blog about work, but for job security I keep names, locations, and identifying details anonymous!
You have to go to graduate school to become a bona fide librarian. I spent all of 2004 and 2005 in Vancouver, British Columbia, doing just that. I didn’t mean to fall in love with Vancouver, but I did. It’s a great city in a beautiful province and I met a lot of wonderful people there. So even though I live in the city where I grew up – a city I love, by the way – I miss Vancouver and I talk about it a lot. By the way, the sunset shot at the top of this blog was shot in Vancouver. It was not edited or enhanced in Photoshop, either. Vancouver just gets great sunsets like that.
When I’m not working, I’m usually taking pictures and/or hiking. These are my two great loves, and they are both things I’ve gained a greater appreciation for only recently. Despite growing up in a family of hikers in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, I was never too keen on hiking and I often took the beauty of this place for granted. That all changed when I moved to beautiful British Columbia. And I was never good at taking pictures of all the beautiful things I saw until I started studying photography seriously last year on my own. Now I combine my love for the Great Outdoors and my love for photography, and beautiful things happen!
Things I geek out for: books, maps, photography, Christmas, cross-stitch, hiking, and camping. I will talk about all these things here, including, but not limited to, funny things my sister said, dumb things I saw on television, great books I’ve read, good movies I’ve seen, the weather (people in the Pacific Northwest LOVE talk about the weather), and crazy things I did to flee the scary spiders.
This blog is a little bit of everything. Enjoy!

Hi Cheryl!
You posted the Oregonian article about stolen cars with my name in it on your April 8th 2007 blog. As a favor to me, will you please remove my full name from the blog?
Best Wishes,
Nicole Doorly

Thanks so much for taking out the last name next to mine! Can you do the same for my mother?
Many many thanks,
Nicole

Hi there-
I work at Wieden and Kennedy in Portland and currently working on a project for Oregon Tourism. We are updating a really cool website from last year http://www.traveloregon.com/365/, and would love to showcase some cool hikes like horsetail fall loop in the gorge. You have some grrat photos so we were hoping we could possibly get your approval and maybe use an existing photo from your flickr page?
Please let us know ASAP, as we are narrowing down the calendar and going through approvals soon.
Thanks!

I came across your blog via Flickr, while looking for some Mt Hood Photos.
I’ve browsed through your photosteams – great job and your blog and found it the pieces on the library facinating. I’m a huge fan of Multnomah County Libraries (Gregory Heights Branch mostly) and the folks the toil away there.
